My beautiful sissy Melineh travels often and brings back unused toiletries from hotels. She acquired quite a collection, so we go together one evening to put together apothecary bags to give to the unhoused. Since we made about 90 kits, she figured it would be best for us to deliver them to an organization that assists those in need, and she found Foothill Unity Center.
Foothill Unity Center is a multi-service agency that provides services to individuals and families in need. Founded in 1980 by Josephine Anderson, the center has become a source for food, health services, and crisis assistance to thousands of low-income families in the SGV.
The place is clean and spacious and the staff were friendly and gracious for our donation. It felt nice to do something good for others and give back to the community. The security guard on duty was an absolute doll - polite, friendly, and respectful. He made our day as much as we made his.
They accept donations of any kind and you can drop off during business hours 8 am - 4:30 pm Mon - Fri. Donation wish list: https://foothillunitycenter.org/wish-list/ You can also volunteer https://foothillunitycenter.org/volunteer/.Helpful 45Thanks 16Love this 50Oh no 0 - 7025403850Feb 9, 2024
NIKKI B And I came here and we donated multiple bags of apothecary that we had put together that included various shampoo's, soap's, etc.
This establishment helps families with food and various types of apothecary that they need to survive during hard times.
Please donate.
I forgot the security guard in the front his name but he is very nice and was extremely welcoming.Helpful 26Thanks 7Love this 22Oh no 0 - Nov 21, 2022Updated review
COVID-19: Social distancing is enforced at this establishment. Some of the staff wears a mask. All individuals are not expected to wear a mask. It's optional now. Some of the staff also wears gloves. There are no hand sanitizers available for people to use. This place is open and available with no limited capacity. They are not sanitizing in between people.
COVID-19 Vaccination Proof: This establishment currently does not require proof of vaccination.
Parking: The parking lot for this establishment is decent. No one parks here anyways because it is a drive through food bank. The volunteers, like me, will bring food out to you while you wait in the car.
Staff: The staff here are very nice, friendly, and passionate about the volunteer work.Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 6Oh no 0Oct 29, 2021Previous reviewCOVID-19: Social distancing is enforced at this establishment. Parking: The parking lot for this establishment is pretty big. There is a big lot in the front and the back of the building. Although, I would venture to guess that the back parking lot is for the volunteers and staff.
Staff: The staff/volunteers here are very kind, friendly, and informative. This is a food bank. There are many kind hearted volunteers here working. God bless these people. - Amy L.City of Industry, CA02Mar 1, 2024
Came back 2 times , of last month. Printer broke down can't renew my VIP for picking up food. Came back today, I have to wait in line when THEY have all my documents. They can't even print out the paper when they have my damn documents.. Sadly it's not organized and prepare.... Last time waited over 2 hours for food and checking in..... And funny thing that they were closing too...
They need to be more organized and have more people helping customer out...Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Patricia B.Altadena, CA07Aug 6, 2023
I volunteered as part of my company's annual community service volunteering days with my department at SCE. I'm amazed by this 501c3 organization's resourcefulness, partnerships, and impact!
If your looking for a place to give back they truly serve the whole community through their services in 12 cities, including food for people and pets, crisis case management, health services, job development, housing and homeless services for low-income people in twelve communities in the San Gabriel Valley.
This small organization resourcefully works with food banks, community gardens, local school volunteer programs, college dental programs, local business charitable programs, community leaders, and obtains grants to provide emergency food, health services, holiday assistance, and shelter for people who live in Altadena, Arcadia, Azusa, Baldwin Park, Bradbury, Duarte, Irwindale, Monrovia, Pasadena, South Pasadena, or Sierra Madre.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 5000120910976Jan 7, 2019
Support your local non-profits! We always have to remember to give back to our local community.
This non-profit accepts donations of all-kinds! So before you throw away your clothes or canned food, consider this place first.
I volunteered for Thanksgiving at an event held at their HQ. The event was pretty organized and the people that work here are passionate about giving back to the less fortunate. My role for this event was to walk people down the produce line and help them fill their bag with goods to cook a Thanksgiving dinner at home. Some people even came up to me crying, super thankful to be receiving this from Foothill Unity Center. It was so heartwarming to see this and made me realized that sometimes we really do get carried away with our daily lives.

What an amazing nonprofit! I can definitely see that the volunteers here are dedicated and worked very hard to provide resources for the surrounding community!
I was there to donate some leftover canned food and extra medical supplies with my mom and received an incredible assistance! Jonathan was there and was extremely helpful and friendly there! The service there was top notch and I had no issues!
I recommend anyone who has leftover canned foods or supplies to donate them to this place! They do amazing work for the community! Any little thing helps!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Yummi L.El Monte, CA48581Aug 6, 2022
The staff are always very nice and eager to help. They would help me load my car and also opened the gate for me when I was late and they were closing. I am grateful these men and women care and want to make a difference for our community! Glad I could contribute and thank you for making the drop off easy!

Amazing team and volunteer group working hard to provide resources to the community.
We had the opportunity to bring our team here to volunteer with prepping and processing and distribution.
I can see the heart of this place. I got to work with experienced volunteers who clearly care so deeply and have deep wells of knowledge and care for their clients.
Thank you for serving and for allowing us to learn from you.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Patricia C.Altadena, CA2095838Apr 14, 2020
Up to this point I have always thought that this was definitely a worthwhile organization to support. However, I have noticed that the lesser qualified office staff seems to remain indefinitely, while all of the good people - MANY of whom are volunteers - seem not to want to come back. The office staff that remains are exremely rude & heaven help it if you try to stick up for yourself when they don't allow you to speak - they will turn it all around on you & call you rude & hide behind "we don't need to take your abuse" so that they can do absolutely nothing. It makes one wonder how an organization that is theoretically here to provide "good" for the community - insists on staffing such hateful people in their office. The field staff - those who distribute - are truly kind & excellent!
My problem is basically with one specific person, in the Pasadena office, Angel, who has been nothing but a thorn in my side every single year that I have had my taxes done here. This year - she literally took time out of her "busy" day to call the Monrovia office & tell them not to help me. Sounds like just the kind of person that we need doing community outreach to the lesser fortunate population. Most likely she is a volunteer - or at least I hope so - as she should not be taking an income away from someone who needs it.
I began doing my taxes there several years ago - there were 2 women in the office & it was their first year doing them - so we spent the entire afternoon figuring them out together. We had alot of fun & at the end, because I am a bookkeeper, we agreed that I would come work with them next year. Next year came around & both of these amazing women were already gone.
What is the real shame is that they have had such an amazing group of kind, compassionate people over the years, who do not remain. But, this organization is not alone - all across the board we see people in positions that they would never have had otherwise - doing extremely incompetant jobs - yet feeling as if they are completely qualified thus displaying unwarranted superiority complexes over those whom they are supposed to be assisting. It is very unfortunate because this has really been an excellent resource in years past. I also understand from one of the staff that I spoke with today that I am not the only person who has had problems with Angel.
So, I called to get the phone number of the business of Gloria - the accountant who has volunteered for many, many years to do taxes here - but I do seem to recall her telling me last year that she would not be back. I have no problem paying her to do them - she is that good! Would you believe they refused - well, pretended they did not know the name of her accounting firm. Just goes to show you that after all the years of her volunteering, so that they could continue to get their funding - that they never once asked her the name of her company? I do hope, at least for Gloria's sake, that they are lying about that. Otherwise, they are even less humane than I perceived!
EXCEPT for the Director, Tashira Taylor, & Anisa Bartlett, the coordinator in Monrovia, they are the real deal - I just hope they are able to overcome the office staffing problem so that this organization can get back to where it was originally.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0
